i’ve been trying to make some things that sounds basically exactly like this project from saeph for a couple months and i’m going to go delete all my ableton projects now.

genuinely baffled by the positive reception this has received. my tiktok fyp is full of people declaring this the greatest album they've ever heard. what i can say positive about this album is that it is not ineptly put together. this is clearly the work of competent musicians in service of the blandest, most mid vision in existence. every aspect of this is sonically repulsive to me. even in the occasional moments when i appreciate the craft of the songwriting and production, it's all ruined by mica's awful indie girl baby voice. i can't fathom why so many people are acting like this is a unique or new sound -- it feels like all indie pop has sounded like this… More

there's a universe full of rappers who sound like bladee who want very badly for you to think that they're soooo cool. you can easily read cold visions as bladee's attempt at making a carti-style "rage" album and it's enough to make you wonder why people ever give clowns like yeat the time of day when bladee's been doing his schtick but way better since like 2013. listening to 2093 i just kept hearing yeat refer to himself as the "psycho CEO" and thinking about how obvious it is that he's ripping off bladee's "drain gang CEO" persona but trying to make it cool instead of fun. bladee does not fucking care about being cool. nobody else out here is… More

something i learned from the kendrick-drake beef (i promise i am writing a review of pushing daisies by julie) is that i am so done with artists who are incapable of any vocal style other than a detached cool monotone (and yes i realize that i'm saying this with cold visions in my rotation. i contain multitudes.) listening to push-ups and family matters next to euphoria and meet the grahams and not like us it just became painfully clear how exhausted this whole thing is. we get it. please, scream, shout, sound like you're angry, sound like you're sad or happy or anything, just care about something for once in your life.

not only do julie sound like they don't… More

    I FINALLY GET THIS RECORD

i first heard it in 2016 because its second track, "miss you," was the opening theme for the waypoint radio podcast. at the time, i did not really get it. i could not tell you what's changed, but i get it now. it's fun. it's a good time. it's maybe the most "i just graduated with a degree in composition and i have no idea what to do with my life" album of all time. it's a beautiful, joyful record packed densely with every single thing bo en loves, and there's nothing more i desire from music than that.

first off, let it be known that like with all jane remover side projects, the version of this on streaming is unauthorized and you can find the real version and the rest of venturing's stuff on soundcloud. anyway the review:

if you're going to insist on continuing to tediously retread the 90s, this is how to do it: pretend you're uploading the archived recordings of your obscure south dakota indie band that you were in 30 years ago. i say this as The Oldest Zoomer: it is adorable to watch soundcloud comment zoomers pretend they remember this band. the charade is so inept it's precious. venturing has the elements of 90s rock, but assembled all wrong; absolutely nothing sounded like… More

there's a weird kind of disappointment when an album comes out and it turns out the singles were definitely the best tracks on it. which is stupid, because the singles here are almost the entire A-side of the album, and it's not like the b-side is bad, it's in fact really good.

is there really no happiness? and year of the cup are the only non-single tracks which, for me, reach the level of the singles. i was really excited for mona lisa before listening because i adore frost children and wanted to hear porter put his 3OH!3 on but it turns out that it kind of sounds like neither of their music and instead sound like someone put… More
