something i learned from the kendrick-drake beef (i promise i am writing a review of pushing daisies by julie) is that i am so done with artists who are incapable of any vocal style other than a detached cool monotone (and yes i realize that i'm saying this with cold visions in my rotation. i contain multitudes.) listening to push-ups and family matters next to euphoria and meet the grahams and not like us it just became painfully clear how exhausted this whole thing is. we get it. please, scream, shout, sound like you're angry, sound like you're sad or happy or anything, just care about something for once in your life.

not only do julie sound like they don't care about their own music, but their music doesn't even stand out in any other way. in a world where not only do their obvious 90s influences exist (mbv, slowdive, lush, chapterhouse, ride, swervedriver, etc etc), but tons of better bands and artists also ripping off those influences exist (jane remover, asian glow, weatherday, parannoul, feeble little horse, sonhos tomam conta, etc etc), i genuinely don't understand why i keep hearing about julie. is it the anime girls? if census designated had an anime album cover would you all listen to that instead?
