The first album for these types of bands is always so much better than anything else they ever releases. I think it has to do with a lifetime of riffs and the fact there isn't an (at the time) obligation to play these song every single night. Under appreciated gem of the late 2000s metalcore era.
We’re not taking any crazy risks here. We’re not exploring the bounds of the genre or anything. Like riffs? Sick—here are some good black metal riffs. Like blast beats? Of course you do. My lizard brain loves when the double bass drum goes dun-dun-dun real fast.
Easy is a stripped-down, more simplified version of an already simplified style. It takes the next step building on their indie rock melodies and heavier soundscapes. It has no business being 51 minutes long.
Listen, if Jordan is writing guitar for a band they are going to have Sick Ass Riffs with a capital S. This album is very fun and better than late era ETID. I won't apologize.
You know how people have comfort albums? Like for normal people it’s probably like Nora Jones or Taylor Swift or The Beatles or whatever? This is a comforting album for me. It makes me feel nice and cozy and happy.
Straightforward melodic death metal with some fun riffs, great vocals, and lyrics about being a Viking and doing Viking shit. Have fun with it - we aren’t out here looking for Grammys.
I always kinda felt like if Primus was loosely like “Hey what if we were actually a technical thrash metal band?” they’d sound similar to Voivod. It’s good thrash. Better than Anthrax that is for sure.
“Prison Song” has such an iconic first note that anyone who grew up during the 2000s will instantly recognize it. It is to me what the first piano note of “Black Parade” is to emo kids.
