No album has disturbed and captivated me like this. By sheer luck, a friend picked up a 2nd hand vinyl copy somewhere in the late 90s before the re-issues. They anticipated much of the noise rock and industrial that followed them, but these categories are too reductive to describe how astoundingly original this album is. I was extremely fortunate to see them at the shows at EartH and The Albany in Deptford a few years back.
I was unmoved by the earlier releases which I found erratic (not in a good way). This is better and more consistent, but not doing anything that Codeine, Bedhead etc didn't do decades ago. But then again, not many people do that and I happen to like it.
Earlier releases seemed to be following a similar path to TAGABOW and the more experimental end of noisy indie rock. This is just a great rock record with great songs. "How Far" and "Ridgeline" stand out for me. Come to London please.
