It took a couple of listens for this album to start really clicking with me, but now I really appreciate it. Opting for much sparser production and a smoother sonic landscape, this album really needed tracks to be mostly be under 3 min. I love the dichotomy of a darker side to .Paak's vocals over "baby-making music". Most of the features were spot on and the album plays through tremendously well. However, a couple of things that hold it back are that there isn't enough sonic diversity to make some tracks stick out from the rest and sometimes the length of the tracks leaves some tunes feeling half-baked. Overall, an awesome experience and a satisfactory follow-up to Yes, Lawd!
Their blend of classic golden age rap and r&b feels perfectly tailored for my taste so maybe I’m not super objective about it but to me this sounds genuinely incredible. Their previous collaborations were already good but this is more refined. The production is elegant and expansive and Paak lets it shine by picking his spots perfectly.
Picked up the vinyl a week before its release and being able to listen to it early feels like finding a rare treasure before the rest of the world flocks to it. The quality of production is insane and Knxwledge knows exactly how to weave every song together. Only critical thing I can say is that album doesn't slow down enough, even though it has a full roster of downtempo tracks. The runtime is just a bit too short for it to really breathe, maybe because of the six songs that run under the 2 minute mark.
