Not sure what I was expecting from LinkedIn Park in the year of our lord 2024 with their new Chief Screamy Officer and Head Of Drums but they’re certainly not the brand they used to be are they.
I love a lot of this, to be honest. It sounds like Linkin Park, with a new singer, and I'll always have a soft spot for them. She's really great. The live performance of Emptiness Machine, when Emily was introduced, will define this album for me. The lesser tracks aren't so important.
While I am familiar with their biggest hits, I have never actually listened to Linkin Park before. I was intrigued with them coming out with a new album, especially with a new singer, as I knew how big Chester was and how his death impacted fans.
So instead of listening to some of their previous albums, From Zero is the first LP album I have listened and relistened to. The verdict? I quite like it!
The singles are great, I love The Emptiness Machine, Heavy is the Crown, Over Each Other, and Stained. The other songs are a split between forgettable and catchy-but-not-great.
All in all, I love what LP has done with this album and it just made me… More
First time I've properly listened to a Linkin Park record since Meteora as a teenager.
Parts of this work and remind me why I was so into them at the time (Heavy Is The Crown).
Other parts just feel like they're going through the motions, it's all a bit bloodless (Casualty). Two Faced in particular feels like it's desperately trying to be a Hybrid Theory song and ends up, at best, sounding like a bad cover version and largely just serves as a reminder of a better album rather than feeling like a continuation.
At its best, I’m reminded of Linkin Park’s earlier releases. At its worst, I’m reminded of Linkin Park’s earlier releases. There will be no shortage of commentary on the new vocalist, and the immense task of stepping in following the loss of Chester Bennington. The inevitable next tour will sell well, I’m sure of it.
