I haven’t written many reviews lately. I’ve been busy fanboying. The high rating (I confess!) is due to incessant listening, and it honestly only got better every time.
It’s not as disco flirty as Future Nostalgia but I honestly don’t mind a bit of well written and well sung mainstream pop every now and then.
Remember when she said this album was inspired by Massive Attack, Primal Scream and UK rave culture? Never has an album sounded less than Massive Attack, Primal Scream or UK rave culture.
Disappointed. Coming off of the high of Future Nostalgia, I was really psyched for this follow-up, especially given her stated influences of 90s/00s UK rave scene. In addition, tapping into Kevin Parker in his current pop era made a lot of sense, but the pieces of the puzzle never fit together and add up to a full picture.
