it's weird that this isn't a beloved Dylan album. I guess the Budokan type Dylan, the Neil Diamond and Van Morrison 70s Dylan, isn't very popular, because it's not folky nor merely electric nor transcendent, it's big and bold and obvious. These background vocals ("New Pony") are lovely, "Baby Stop Crying" is just as hooky and good as "Lay Lady Lay," "True Love Tends to Forget" could slide in on "Blood on the Tracks."
Some folks hear Dylan, Colin Meloy, Dan Bejar sing, and they think "is that a bit?" I never did. It's a unique timbre. If you don't like it I can't convince you you should. I like it.
