Been listening to this pretty heavily since it came out because I kept meaning to review it and also because it's good! I think maybe not quite hitting the highs of God's Pee but also who know

The front half of this album caught me off guard as it starts a lot lighter than the title might suggest. The end of RAINDROPS CAST IN LEAD feels almost rowdy. The interlude of BROKEN SPIRES AT DEAD KAPITAL and then fuck you ominous drum of PALE SPECTATOR TAKES PHOTOGRAPHS is closer to what I expected (even if the drums feel slightly outside their normal sound to me).

I think it's also to say that that dirge is easily the strongest track on the album—it feels so much more varied than the other long tracks on the album without feeling any less cohesive. I love a lot of the other projects that the various members have going on but there just isn't anything comparible to Godspeed when they're hitting their stride and honestly I think the final 3rd of this album competes with any similar block on another album. I've been relistening as I type this and I might even walk back the statement at the beginning of the paragraph. GREY RUBBLE – GREEN SHOOTS is able to hit so much of the classic Godspeed soundscape and move through several emotions so completely in a succinct-for-them 7 minutes. This album is real good. I'll probably need to bump the star rating up after a few more listens

A thing that I didn't quite notice the first few times and now can't unhear is the climax of BABIES IN A THUNDERCLOUD kind of sounds like the opening riff to the 2020 Wolf Parade album, _Thin Mind_. Just something to think about.
